One of the best things about teaching kindergarten is getting to watch my students grow into readers! First they learn their letter sounds and then go on to being able to blend sounds together. Making the transition from letters sounds to reading words is a big accomplishment for your little readers. The easiest way to teach your students to bridge letter sounds into words is by teaching CVC words.
What are CVC Words
A CVC word is a word made up of 3 letters that includes a a consonant, a vowel, and another consonant. For example: cat, bat, man, sat, ext. Once your reader knows their soundsCVC words are a fun way to teach your reader to read.
One way I teach CVC words is by using task cards around the room. It gets them up and moving and engaged in their learning.
Differentiate how they work.
One way you can make this easier or harder for them. Is by which recording sheet you give them. For example I have the following.
This one gives them the word ending and they just have to recognize the beginning sound and ending sound.
All of these activities are located in my TPT shop under CVC task cards. Check them out and see how engaged your kids are in learning their CVC words.
